
Job Description The Process Development Engineer is responsible for the following:
- Planning and guiding experimental programs (laboratory - bench - pilot scale).
- Performing data analysis and reporting results, documenting the results of experimental studies and making recommendations for future action.
- Planning operational campaigns, including logistics, resourcing, operational conditions, analysis scheme and modifications to units.
- Conceptual process modeling - process design.
- Recommending patent action arising from research programs.
- Sharing best practices in area of process development and providing challenge/expertise to other projects. Requirements
- PhD in Chemical Engineering / Chemistry (or equivalent)
- Minimum ten (10+) years research and development experience
- Experience in process development for lignocellulosic feedstocks (e.g., corn stover, wheat straw, sorghum, wood) to ethanol manufacture using high consistency processes (>30% total solids) including biomass pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, and co-fermentation (C5 and C6 sugars)
- Experience with risk based technology programs for the commercialization of cellulosic ethanol technologies from lignocellulosic feedstocks (e.g., corn stover, wheat straw, sorghum, wood), operating pilot/demonstration plant equipment, and analyzing data generated on pilot/demonstration plant equipment to recommend commercial scale equipment
- Experience with pulp and paper, biochemistry, or other process biotechnology desired
- Background/experience in process development and/or experimental studies
- Experience with design/planning/operation of experimental facilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Modeling background and the ability to use/ learn process simulation tools No. of Positions 1
