We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Corporate Technology Steward - PVC Technology within our Technology organization. The position will reside in one of our PVC plants in Houston, TX.
Essential Job Duties
This position is responsible for directing OxyChem's PVC operations to ensure continual improvement in health, safety, and the environment, plant reliability and costs, product quality, and employee technical knowledge.
- Develop, manage, and participate in programs, systems, methods and practices to maintain and enhance a safe work environment at the PVC plants.
- Lead the effort to develop and maintain the knowledge and skill level of the production and technical support groups at the plant sites.
- Through collaboration with Avon Lake Technology Center and plant staff, improve existing products, assist customers, reduce manufacturing costs, improve safety, reduce environmental impact, and provide technical support for all PVC manufacturing plants.
- Maintain relationships with technology suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and technology experts throughout the industry.
- Establish and maintain open communications with the OxyVinyls Business Managers to establish projects and priorities consistent with Business objectives.
- Evaluate technology to enhance OxyChem ROA and provide recommendations for prudent investments.
- Work with Corporate and local purchasing groups to obtain best value to OxyChem in negotiations with suppliers.
- Provide current, direct, complete, and "actionable" positive and corrective feedback to others
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or other relevant technical discipline is desired. Persons with extensive practical PVC manufacturing experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the development or support of PVC manufacturing or processing technology or a closely related field.
- Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information and in the time required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Superior data analysis abilities using Microsoft Access and Excel.
- Proficient in other Microsoft applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Self-starter with a strong desire to deliver superior results.
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
- Strong negotiator.
- A proven team player capable of working in a multi-discipline team environment with a desire to share knowledge.
- Managerial Courage - Be willing to take a stand on issues that may not be popular and not be afraid to take negative action when necessary.
- May require extensive domestic and international travel as required to support assignments.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
- Physical requirements - Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
Value Added Qualifications
- An advanced degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- PVC manufacturing and/or processing experience.
- Plant supervisory or management experience.
- Good comfort level presenting information to all levels of management.
