We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Electrical Engineer within our Permian Resources Strategic Operations and Support Group based in Midland, Texas.

This position is a key technical role to ensure that the electrical generation, transmission and distribution systems are efficient, reliable and safe. Contribution to these goals will be achieved by engineering the electrical infrastructure in a manner which makes optimum use of personnel, technology and new and existing infrastructure to provide uninterrupted power to Permian Resources oil and gas facilities.

Essential Job Duties

Evaluate (promote, advance, further, improve) Permian Resources electrical engineering discipline and overall value of the company's electrical distribution and generation systems through the application/sharing of technical expertise, lessons learned, best practices, standards and specifications, and electrical safety procedures and work practices.
  • Provide technical comments to project electrical specifications, electrical single line diagrams, power system studies, schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop and prepare new electrical power systems standards and specifications, and design criteria and philosophy documents.
  • Assist Permian Resources with power system networks to meet or exceed the goals for operational excellence and improved cost control, quality, reliability, and productivity.
  • Develop initiatives and projects to maintain and improve Permian Resources electrical infrastructure in areas of safety, cost reduction, reliability, and productivity.
  • Improve Permian Resources electrical system performance through the use of appropriate metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Investigate electrical failures or problems to determine cause and engineer improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Experience and ability to independently lead Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for major electrical equipment.
  • Experience with major projects startup and commissioning
  • Determine electrical loads, power transmission, substation, and distribution system requirements to support oil and gas Life of Field Development Plans
Desired Skills:
  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) accredited curriculum, or equivalent.
  • Electrical Engineering Degree with 5+ years of technical work experience in oil and gas industry or electric utility industry, or equivalent.
  • Experience with electrical transmission, distribution and generation systems in oil & gas operations or similar environments (e.g. beam units, ESPs, power generation, high voltage distribution systems, substations, equipment/end-device protection, and power quality).
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with a proven ability to make effective technical decisions promptly and accurately.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to influence and implement programs.
  • Experience in modeling of electric distribution, transmission and generation systems. Modeling acumen to include load flow, short circuit, motor starting, stability, load shed, protective device coordination, arc-flash hazard analysis, etc. with computer software (ETAP, Millsoft WindMil, Aspen Relay Database, Aspen OneLiner).
  • Distribution and Transmission line design and analysis using PLS-CADD.
  • Electromagnetic and transient analysis using Current Distribution, Electromagnetic Fields, Grounding and Soil Structure Analysis (CDEGS) software package.
  • Drafting experience with Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical, Microstation or equivalent.
  • Experienced with protective relays, circuit reclosers, VFDs, UPS systems, low and high resistance grounding systems, circuit breakers, power and distribution transformers, synchronous machines, medium voltage switchgear and MCC, large medium voltage motors, high voltage substations, transmission and distribution lines.
  • Experienced with electrical reliability and efficiency, power quality, power management systems, electrical SCADA and GIS applications.
  • Good working knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), American Petroleum Institute (API) recommended practices, IEEE standards and guidelines, Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA-70E), and OSHA safety standards.
  • Broad based knowledge and experience at developing and implementing strategic plans for preventative maintenance, Protection System Monitoring Program (PSMP) practices, personnel/equipment safety, electrical testing and test methods for electrical substations, switchgear, and transmission/distribution lines.
  • Business Travel: must be able to travel 30% of time to domestic locations.
Additional Qualifications:
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred
  • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) training
  • Good technical understanding of Schweitzer and other microprocessor based protective relays
  • Field experience and sound knowledge of soft starters and variable speed drives for 480 V thru 12.47 kV
  • Experience with transmission and distribution systems operation and maintenance
  • Electrical infrastructure design for facilities ranging from 120 V thru 230 kV
