Job Description
Sunoco Logistics is currently seeking a dynamic, personable, and professional Senior Manager who will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting and reporting functions supporting the Partnership's refined products, NGL and crude oil pipelines. Reporting to the Director of Crude Accounting and Administration (located in Sugar Land), the Manager will have a staff of approximately 8 people. The position will be located in the Company's Sugar Land, Texas offices.
The expectations, role and responsibilities for this job will include but are not limited to:
  • Provide relevant and timely information to the Director of Crude Accounting and Administration and Chief Accounting Officer; work closely with the operating business unit leaders to ensure timely identification and resolution of financial issues associated with the SXL's pipeline business
  • Maintain and ensure an effective internal controls environment and the associated compliance and adherence to SOX 404, including being a significant control and process owner. Ensure that individuals in the business understand their responsibilities under SOX 404
  • Assist the Partnership's SEC reporting team in conjunction with the preparation of quarterly 10-Q, annual 10-K filings and technical accounting issues that impact pipeline activities
  • Contribute to the development of financial policies, plans and programs; ensure these policies are adhered to in the Accounting teams
  • Seek and implement continuous process improvements across the accounting teams and functions; develop and drive system changes as appropriate to further enhance processes and controls
  • Execute resource planning to accommodate business growth; oversight and development of the Accounting team
  • Oversight and direct management of the pipeline accounting functions including all operational reports, volume/revenue analyses, pipeline volume accounting, reconciliation and related tariff review for complex pipelines
  • Ensure accuracy of related intercompany and general ledger account information from pipeline invoicing, as well as overall financial analysis of monthly revenues for SXL crude, NGL and refined products pipelines.
  • Quarterly revenue flux analysis for the pipeline segment.
  • Responsible for the proactive identification of organizational and operational risks related to financial reporting; develop efficient processes to manage identified risks as the company grows
  • Responsible for all aspects of the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, account reconciliations and financial reporting functions associated with general ledger management.
  • Interpret and communicate business results, ensuring that financial results and variances are explained completely and accurately
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions including accruals by monitoring the execution of all accounting processes and controls across the business
  • Review/approve all financial reporting information, supporting schedules, variance analyses and cash flow forecasting
  • Communicate with pipeline shippers and other customers about issues and resolve problems, interface with Business Development (BD) and Scheduling groups on new projects and provide control functions for existing business
  • Develop repeatable processes to ensure customer contract terms such as deficiency provisions are tracked and executed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensure Partnership's FERC reporting responsibilities are met in a complete and accurate manner
  • Manage the audit and review procedures for areas of responsibility and provide information as needed to independent auditors and internal auditors.Set and communicate measurable objectives and goals for the accounting team in its support of the Partnership's core objectives
  • Support changes to the business and create solutions to ensure the appropriate accounting and control processes are designed, implemented and applied
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor in Accounting or Business/Finance
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience, preferably with experience in crude oil and/or refined products pipelines; background in public accounting a plus
  • Strong computer skills and systems knowledge; SAP experience a plus; knowledge of Synthesis or similar pipeline invoicing system a plus
  • Strong general ledger experience and experience implementing and executing financial controls
  • Strong knowledge of FERC and related governing bodies over the transmission of crude and products
  • Must be able to proactively identify financial issues and drive towards solutions
  • Ability to interact with Management and Operations in an advisory capacity as it relates to accounting policies and processes
  • Ability to work independently with minimal and remote supervision and influence others outside of the department
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to adapt well to rapidly changing priorities and responsibilities
  • Ability to interpret contract terms and apply the necessary accounting and control practices
  • Experience in the direct management of medium-sized teams
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • MBA and CPA preferred
